Sunday Funnies
Here are two brief videos of Christmas cheer in lieu of a long entry. (I think the past three days’ worth of lectures is enough of that, you know?)
I heard this song on the radio. The first video is just the song with some attempt at visual humor, but it’s the “original” audio track. The second video is a performance of Fay McKay herself singing it live, MANY years after the recording of the first one.
The boozy lounge days were light-hearted enough. Dean Martin was funny, and though he may have been drinking, he was not *drunk.* Not everyone was all Jack Webb-disapproving rabbit about booze. Even George Carlin made fun of drinking and drugging back then. So, therefore, “Cutty Sark” is funny… plain and simple, it is FUNNY. (Oh, and by the way, Fay McKay never drank.)
and
(Mildly funny are the comments from YouTube watchers: “was she really drunk?” “What’s an old-fashioned?” “Manhattans aren’t dry…” HA HA HA, good god people, wise up! it’s comedy!)
