Knitted Animation

Here’s another video which is a marvel of technique and creativity… Imagine knitting 720 panels for your animation! Sure, she had a knitting machine, but it’s still a major achievement. It’s a bit far away from the kinds of images that I’m wanting to create with fiber, fabric and paint, but when you’re working on new ideas and stuff, it’s good to throw a really big net to see what falls in.

In honor of the freezing rain and sleet tonight… a snow song. It’s a pretty song, about 3:16, from Tricot Machine, entitled Les peaux de lièvres, roughly translated: the skin of rabbits. Okay! It could also be something like the image of rabbits… like we’re happy and jumping around and gonna make like a couple of bunnies, nudge nudge… but the poetry is lost in translation, perhaps.

(The story, according to one commenter is: It’s the story of a couple running away from a part in Montreal. They are going home, deeply in love. They’re looking at each other, their hearts beating faster as they are about to make love. The snow is falling all around them, they both shivering, not because of the cold, but from excitement as love and desire grows in them.)

In looking around for translations and what not, I came across this wonderful image, and I put it here to remind myself of the wonderful stuff you find when you throw a big enough net out on the ‘net.
